24 things I learned in 24 years

Hi guys! Starting the year off strong with a new post and so I thought I'd share my thoughts on the things I've learned while growing up!

    1. Time is money. You wouldn't waste money like it was nothing, so why would you waste time? Why put off something to tomorrow when you can do it today? Appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what you had.
    2. Patience is a virtual. Literally! I'm a very impatient person and I hate waiting for things, whether it's an online order, a booked flight or for my food to come out in a restaurant. But it's true what they say, good things come to those who wait.
    3. Don't let other peoples opinions define who you are. Easier said than done but it's your life and you live it the way you want to. Just make sure that it's the best version of yourself and that you're not doing it to please someone else.
    4. Know your value. Do things that make you happy and put your happiness first before you try and make everyone else around you feel the same! It's okay to put YOU first.
    5. Be kind to yourself and others. Throw that shit around like confetti! It doesn't cost anything to be kind, especially with all the terrible events around the world and even the ones happening close to home .. be kind cos you don't know what people are going through behind closed doors.
    6. Find the beauty in small things. Whether it's a flower, the finer details of an art piece, tattoos, within a book - it's a wonderful thing to see beauty and appreciate the love and thought put into it.
    7. Immerse yourself in culture. I know not everyone has the luxury of travelling but you can do it here in Melbourne! Burncity is known for it's amazing dining and food selections so why not head down to South Melbourne or Queen Victoria Market great seafood, cheese and coffee? But travelling is hands down one of the best way to experience new cultures and learning about the way they live, speak and the history.
    8. Be open to new experiences. Whether it's finding a track to hike or jumping out of a plane - sometimes the smallest of experiences can somewhere down the line have us realise that they were the big experiences and it makes us appreciate it that much more.
    9. Surround yourself with people you love and who respect you. Don't waste your time with negative people. Sound yourself with positive people and the same will radiate out towards others as well.
    10. Less is more. Simple.
    11. Educate yourself on something new. Maybe it's learning a new language, enrolling into a cooking or baking class or investing time into the business world and the market - whatever it is, try and learn something new everyday or every week.
    12. Quality over quantity. That goes for everything in life, people, food, clothes, shoes - anything! There are some exceptions but know what you're investing into.
    13. Listen to music. Music, at least to me, is one of the simplest ways to unite a whole group of people, no matter the ethnicity or where they're from, to enjoy the same song or artist is something magical and comforting. I listen to music on the daily and don't think I could live without it.
    14. Friends are family you choose for yourself. I'm lucky to have such a close nit group of friends who always make me laugh and who are always there for me when I need them. I couldn't appreciate them more! Make sure the people you choose to be friends with are the people who make you happy, have your back and lift you up - not bring you down.
    15. Don't tell an angry person to calm down. It's the last thing they want to hear and feel as if you're not listening to them. Be patient, let them vent and ask how you can help.
    16. Work hard, stay humble.
    17. Spend a lot of time with family. Especially your parents. We tend to forget that although we're becoming older, so are they. Show them you love them and do everything you can for them because they're not going to be here forever. They worked their butts off to ensure that we didn't go through the same hardships as them.
    18. Take time out your day to disconnect from your phone or computer and read a good book. Trust me, it's so refreshing when your eyes aren't constantly glued to a screen. Immerse yourself into a really good book - my recommendation right now is Wonder by RJ Palasio.
    19. There is no progress without struggle. We all go through hardships in life and at one point, it seems like everything turns to shit - but the way we handle it or go about it will really make us appreciate the end result.
    20. Change is inevitable. We all go through changes in our lives - whether we like it or not. Try to embrace it, it honestly makes us who we are today.
    21. Be mindful of what you say to strangers or people you've only just met. We don't know what's going on in someones mind and it could trigger bad memories, experiences and change their thought process.
    22. Life isn't about wanting to relive or thinking about the past or worrying about the future - it's about living in the here and now and it's a gift in itself to be able to be present.
    23. Give more, expect less.
    24. Last but not least - if you keep thinking about it, say something, do it and follow through. Thinking about catching up with an old friend? Do it. Don't just make plans and not go  through with it. Want to tell someone you love them? Do it! Whether it's to a friend, a partner or a family member. Who doesn't like being told that they're loved? Need to tell someone you're sorry? Do it. Life is short, although considering that it's actually a long process, it's not worth living your life with regrets. Correct your wrongs and in return, life will give you something good - as long as you work for it.
*If you want it, go and get it. It might be a house, a career, an item, a puppy, whatever! Get off your ass, and do what you need to do in order to get it. This is definitely something I need to follow for 2018. (just an extra one!)

And that's it! It was actually really hard condensing this into 24 dot points but these are just some of my life lessons. Not everyone will agree with me which is completely fine because we all think and go through things differently. Shoot me a comment on some of your life lessons!

Wishing everyone who is reading this a Happy and safe New Year! Hope 2018 is a year of new opportunities, greater experiences, good food, better company and lots of love! Get shit done this year and kick goals - you guys got this!

Until next time,
Neens
